INTRODUCTORY INSTRUMENT SESSIONS*

Students will learn about the history, background and mechanics of these instruments and also try each instrument with instructor guidance.  Short performances will be given on each instrument.

INSTRUMENT WORKSHOPS* - To be determined

(Note-reading recommended but not required, choose one instrument)

Beginning and intermediate students will have focused, in-depth lessons in smaller groups, Beginning students will learn about the history, background and mechanics of chosen instrument.  Beginning and intermediate students will work on fingering, technique, musical expression and practice short musical selections in preparation for our closing mini-concert.


MORE GROUP SESSIONS AND ACTIVITIES*

HOSE TRUMPET WORKSHOP 

Bill Baxtresser leads a workshop explaining trumpet fundamentals, campers will make and decorate their own hose trumpets.

HANDBELLS ENSEMBLE  

Ensemble will emphasize rhythmic continuity, precise timing and listening as students experience the challenges of playing together as a group while being responsible for one pitch/handbell! 

MORRIS FOLK DANCING   

Students will again learn this delightful form of English folk dancing.  Fast rhythms, coordinated steps, props such as bells, swords are characteristics of Morris dancing!

MOVIE BREAK  

Time to relax and enjoy a movie!

ICE CREAM WALK  

Afternoon walk for an ice cream treat.

MUSIC THEORY/SIGHT READING  

Note reading, scales, circle of fifths, chords, harmony, rhythm and ear training will be covered in these sessions.  What is a cadence?  What is an inversion?  Students will explore theory and the importance of understanding musical structure in musical selections.    

MUSICAL GAMES  

Can you name that instrument?  Which orchestral group of instruments does the English horn belong to?  Which period of music does this piece belong to?
